Eudora Light

Note: Your mailbox has a 3 megabyte quota. To ensure your email is not blocked or deleted please ensure you have followed these steps:

  1. Open Eudora.
  2. Click the Tools menu, choose Options.
  3. Select the Incoming Mail category.
  4. Make sure that the Leave mail on server box is unchecked.
  5. Click OK to save the changes.

Configuration

  1. Open Eudora. Click the Tools menu and choose Options.
  2. Click on Getting Started.
  3. In the POP Account text box, type your email address.
  4. For example: username@cois.on.ca
  5. In the Real name text box, type your name.
  6. In the Return Address text box, type your email address.
  7. For example: username@cois.on.ca
  8. Under Category, select Hosts.
  9. In the SMTP text box, type mail.cois.on.ca
  10. Under Category, scroll down to Advanced Network and select it.
  11. Uncheck Cache network info.
  12. Set Network open timeout to 900 seconds.
  13. Set Network timeout after to 900 seconds.
  14. Click the OK button.

Eudora Pro

Note: Your mailbox has a 3 megabyte quota. To ensure your email is not blocked or deleted please ensure you have followed these steps:

  1. Open Eudora.
  2. Click the Tools menu, choose Options.
  3. Select the Incoming Mail category.
  4. Make sure that the Leave mail on server box is unchecked.
  5. Click OK to save the changes.

Configuration

  1. Open Eudora. Click the Tools menu and choose Options.
  2. Click on Getting Started.
  3. In the Real Name text box, type your name.
  4. In the Return address text box, type your email address.
  5. In the Incoming Mail Server text box, type mail.cois.on.ca
  6. In the Login Name text box, type your Username.
  7. Select Checking Mail.
  8. In the Mail Server text box, type mail.cois.on.ca
  9. In the Login Name text box, type your Username.
  10. Select Incoming Mail.
  11. In the Server Configuration text box, type POP.
  12. In the Authentication Style text box, type Passwords.
  13. Select Sending Mail.
  14. In the Return Address text box, type your full email address.
  15. For example: username@cois.on.ca
  16. Leave the Domain to add to unqualified addresses blank.
  17. In the SMTP Server text box, type mail.cois.on.ca
  18. Click OK.

Netscape Mail 3.x

Note: Your mailbox has a 3 megabyte quota. To ensure your email is not blocked or deleted please ensure you have followed these steps:

  1. Go to the Edit menu and select Preferences.
  2. Click on Mail and News.
  3. Select Mail servers, then select mail.cois.on.ca and click Edit.
  4. Click the POP tab and make sure that the Leave mail on server box is unchecked.
  5. Click OK to save the changes.

Configuration

  1. Open Netscape Navigator.
  2. From the Options menu, select Mail and News Preferences.
  3. Select the Servers tab.
  4. In the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server text box, type mail.cois.on.ca
  5. In the Incoming Mail (POP3) Server text box, type mail.cois.on.ca
  6. In the POP3 User Name text box, enter your member ID.
  7. Select the Identity tab.
  8. In the Your Name text box, type your name.
  9. In the Your Email text box, type your email address.
  10. For example: username@cois.on.ca
  11. In the Reply-to Address text box, type your email address.
  12. For example: username@cois.on.ca
  13. Click OK to exit.

Netscape Messenger 4.x

  1. Go to the Edit menu and select Preferences.
  2. Click on Mail and News.
  3. Select Mail servers, then select mail.cois.on.ca and click Edit.

  5. Click OK to save the changes.

Configuration

  1. Click on the Windows Start button.
  2. Point to Netscape Communicator and select Netscape Messenger.
  3. From Edit menu select Preferences.
  4. Click the + next to Mail & Groups and select Identity.
  5. In the Your Name text box, type your name.
  6. In the Your Email text box, type your email address.
  7. For example: username@cois.on.ca
  8. Under Mail & Groups, select Mail Server.
  9. In the Mail server username text box, type your Username.
  10. In the Outgoing mail [SMTP] server text box, type mail.cois.on.ca
  11. In the Incoming Mail Server text box, type mail.cois.on.ca
  12. Select POP3 (messages and folders are kept locally, on the hard disk).
  13. Click OK to exit.

Microsoft Outlook 97

Note: Your mailbox has a 3 megabyte quota. To ensure your email is not blocked or deleted please ensure you have followed these steps:

  1. Go to the Tools menu and select Services.
  2. Double-click on Internet email.
  3. Click on the Advanced tab and look under Delivery.
  4. Make sure that the Leave a copy of messages on server box is unchecked.
  5. Click OK to save.

Configuration

  1. From the Outlook Tools menu, choose Services.
  2. Select the Services tab.
  3. If Internet Mail appears in the list of services:
    • Highlight Internet Mail.
    • Click the Properties button.
    • Go to step 7.
  4. If Internet Mail does not appear, continue with step 4.
  5. Click the Add button.
  6. In the Add Service to Profile window, highlight Internet Mail.
  7. Click OK
  8. In the Internet Mail window, select the General tab.
  9. Enter your full name and e-mail address under Personal Information.
  10. For Internet Mail server, enter mail.cois.on.ca
  11. For Account name, enter your Username.
    • Note: your Username must all be lower case.
  12. For Password, enter your email password
    • Note: your password is case sensitive.
  13. Select the Connection tab.
  14. Under Connecting to Internet Mail, select Connect using the network.
  15. For Dial using the following connection, select your COIS connection.
  16. Click OK.
  17. If you have added the Internet Mail service, you will be prompted to restart Outlook. Click OK.
  18. Click OK again to dismiss the Services window.
  19. Quit and restart Outlook if necessary

Sending Mail

  1. From the Compose menu, choose New Mail Message.
  2. Enter primary recipients in the To: field, carbon copy recipients in the CC: field (optional), and type a title for the message in the Subject field.
  3. To attach files to the message: from the Insert menu, select File.
  4. When your message is finished, click the Send button.

Checking Mail

  1. From the Tools menu, choose Check for New Mail.
  2. New messages will be downloaded and placed in the Inbox.
  3. To read a message in the Inbox, double-click on it.
  4. To reply to the message, click the Reply button. To forward it, click the Forward button.
  5. To file the message in a folder, from the File menu, choose Move to Folder or Copy to Folder.
  6. To delete the message: from the File menu, choose Delete.

Microsoft Outlook 97 (sr1, 2)

  2. Double-click on Internet email.

  8. In the Mail Account box, type a name for your COIS mailbox
    • Note: this can be anything you want.
  9. In the Name box, type your name.
  10. In the email Address box, type your COIS email address.
  11. For example: username@cois.on.ca
  12. Select the Servers tab.
  13. In the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) box, type mail.cois.on.ca.
  14. In the Incoming Mail (POP3) box, type mail.cois.on.ca.
  15. For Login Information, select Logon using: Account Name, Password.
  16. In the Account Name box, type your Username.
    • Note: your Username must all be lower case.
  17. In the Password box, type your email password.
    • Note: your password is case sensitive.
  18. Select the Connection tab.
  19. For Connection, select your COIS connection.
  20. Click the OK button.
  21. If you have added the Internet Mail service, you will be prompted to restart Outlook.
  22. Click the OK button.
  23. Click OK again to dismiss the Services window.
  24. Quit and restart Outlook if necessary.

Sending Mail

  1. To write a new email message, from the Compose menu, select New Mail Message.

  11. In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server box, type mail.cois.on.ca
  12. Click the Next button.
  13. Select Log on using: POP account name, Password.
  14. In the POP account name box, type your Username.
    • Note: your Username must all be lower case.
  15. In the Password box, type your password.
    • Note: your password is case sensitive.
  16. Click the Next button.
  17. In the Internet mail account name box, type COIS Mail.
    • Note: this can be anything you want.
  18. Click the Next button.
  19. Select your COIS connection.
  20. Click the Next button.
  21. Click the Finish button to save settings.

Microsoft Outlook Express 4

Note: Your mailbox has a 3 megabyte quota. To ensure your email is not blocked or deleted please ensure you have followed these steps:

  1. Go to the Tools menu and select Accounts.
  2. Click on the Mail tab.
  3. Select mail.cois.on.ca then click Properties and select Advanced.
  4. Under the Deliver section, make sure the Leave a copy of messages on server box is unchecked.
  5. Click OK to save.

Configuring a New Account

  1. From the Tools menu, choose Account.
  2. Select the Mail tab.
  3. Click the Add button.
  4. From the Add menu, select Mail.
  5. In the Display name text box, type your name.
  6. Click the Next button to continue.
  7. In the email address text box, type your email address.
  8. In the Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP) server text box, type mail.cois.on.ca
  9. In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server text box, type mail.cois.on.ca
  10. Click the Next button to continue.
  11. In the Password text box, type your password.
  12. Click the Next button.
  13. Select Connect using my phone line.
  14. Click the Next button to continue.
  15. Click the Finish button.
  16. Click the Close button.

Reconfiguring an Existing Account

  1. From the Tools menu, select Account.
  2. Select the Mail tab.
  3. Select the account to be reconfigured.
  4. Click on the Properties button.
  5. In the Mail account text box, type mail.cois.on.ca
  6. In the Name text box, type your name.
  7. In the email Address text box, type your email address.
  8. For example: username@cois.on.ca
  9. Check Include this account when doing a full send and receive.
  10. Select the Servers tab.
  11. In the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) text box, type mail.cois.on.ca
  12. In the Incoming Mail (POP3) text box, type mail.cois.on.ca
  13. Select Log on using.
  14. In the Account name text box, type your Username.
    • Note: your Username must all be lower case.
  15. In the Password text box, type your password.
    • Note: your password is case sensitive.
  16. Uncheck My server requires authentication.
  17. Select the Connection tab.
  18. Select Connect using my phone line.
  19. Click on the Close button to exit.

Microsoft Outlook Express 5.x/6.x

  1. Go to the Tools menu and select Accounts.

  10. Click Next.
  11. In the Account name box, type your Username.
    • Note: your Username must all be lower case.
  12. In the Password box, type your password.
    • Note: your password is case sensitive.
  13. If you want to have your password saved, so that you don't have to type it when checking email, place a check in the Remember password box.
  14. Click Next.
  15. Click Finish to save your settings.
